Tuesday’s boys soccer sectional semifinal game between Ramapo and Morris Knolls was postponed to Wednesday due to poor air quality in the area as a result of nearby wildfires.
It’s the second time Ramapo has had to reschedule a playoff game in the past week. The Raiders played their sectional quarterfinal game against Tenafly on Sunday, instead of Saturday as originally scheduled, for the same reason. They won 4-0.
Ramapo’s Franklin Lakes campus is fewer than 20 miles from the Jennings Creek wildfire that has burned through 5,000 acres of land in New Jersey and New York. The fire was 30 percent contained as of Tuesday evening.
Historically bone-dry weather and high wind gusts are posing “significant challenges” to crews fighting the fire, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Ramapo won the Bergen County championship last month and is seeking its first sectional championship since 2016.
The Raiders are the No. 1 seed in North 1, Group 3. Their semifinal opponent, Morris Knolls, is the No. 13 seed. The winner of Wednesday night’s game will face No. 7 seed Randolph in the sectional final.
