DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The University of Minnesota Duluth football team is getting ready for their final game of the season.
The Bulldogs sit at 6-4 following a 35-7 win over Concordia University, St. Paul on Saturday, their fourth time holding a team to seven points or under this season.
Despite knowing the team will be competing for the final time this year, Head Coach Curt Wiese says he and his team have plenty to play for as they face Division II’s 18th-ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks.
“The season went by fast,” said Wiese. “This senior crew has been tremendous. They’ve done a very good job as far as leadership and I think we owe it to our seniors this week to play hard. I know we’re going to have a good week of practice. I know our guys were focused already on Sunday getting prepared for this game.“
UMD will be celebrating their upperclassmen during the Senior Day game in front of the home fans at James S. Malosky Stadium.
“I couldn’t ask for a better crowd or better motivation than the fans that come here every home game,” said Senior Linebacker Brady Herbst.
“The people that I want to play for are always here so it gives us a lot of motivation and a lot of help out on the field. It feels like we have someone to lean on.”
The Bulldogs will face the 8-2 Mavericks on Saturday, Nov. 16 at noon.
The game will be broadcast on the My9 Sports Network.
