GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams wrapped up their regular season hosting Westminster.
For the No.18 ranked Women’s team they put a bow on their successful season, winning 1-0. The lone score of the game off the leg of Sauvelyne Randel proved to be the difference off a penalty kick.
The victory makes it back to back shutout wins for Mavs Women’s soccer and their ninth in total on the season.
Women’s soccer ends the season at 13-2-2, and 11-1-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference play.
CMU Women’s soccer is headed to the conference tournament, but don’t know their first opponent in the quarterfinals yet. They will draw the winner of the eight-nine seed showdown between Regis and Fort Lewis.
Meanwhile the Men’s Team had an up and down season end with a loss to the Griffins at a final of 0-3. Despite a first half shutout the Mavericks surrendered three unanswered goals in the 2nd period.
The loss puts the Mavericks record to end the year at 5-10-2,and 2-7-1 in conference play making this the first season the Mavericks have not eclipsed nine or more wins in a full season since 2012.
