World Cup winner unveiled as new Aussie white-ball captain for Pakistan clashes – Fox Sports

Josh Inglis is Australia’s newest white-ball captain with the wicket-keeper batter to take the reins for the final ODI of the three match series against Pakistan, as well as for the upcoming T20I series.
Inglis will take over from Pat Cummins on his home ground of Perth Stadium as the Test skipper, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith all depart the ODI squad after Friday’s second match at the Adelaide Oval to fine tune for the first Test against India starting November 22.

Pace bowlers Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett have been drafted in as replacements for the ‘big three’ quicks with fellow speedster Lance Morris already part of the squad – he was added in for the first ODI at the MCG with Hazlewood playing Sheffield Shield.
Wicket keeper batter Josh Phillipe has also been called in after an impressive start to the summer for his new state New South Wales.

It will be the first time Inglis has taken on the captaincy at international level with Cummins shifting his focus to the Border Gavaskar Trophy and incumbent T20I captain Mitchell Marsh doing the same once he is back from paternity leave.
The West Australian, who was born in England, becomes Australia’s 30th ODI captain and the 14th skipper of the T20I side.
The 29-year-old was brought into the ODI team at the expense of Alex Carey for the second game of last year’s successful World Cup campaign, while it is only with Matthew Wade’s international retirement this year that he has permanently been given the gloves in the T20I team.
He beat out the likes of experienced teammates Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis as well as Adelaide Strikers skipper Matt Short for the role, despite having little captaincy experience.

“Josh is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field,” national selection panel chair George Bailey said.
“He has led Australia A previously and will bring strong tactical nous and a positive approach to the role.
“Josh will receive great support from the likes of Matt Short and Adam Zampa, along with senior players including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.”
Australia leads the three-game ODI series 1-0 following a two-wicket victory in Melbourne, with the second match in Adelaide on Friday.
