New Hartford boys complete sectional Class A soccer title sweep – Utica Observer Dispatch

EAST SYRACUSE — The New Hartford boys completed a Spartans sweep of Section III’s Class A soccer titles with a 4-0 win over South Jefferson Saturday in the title match at East Syracuse-Minoa High School.
New Hartford (13-3-2), the No. 2 seed, took a 1-0 lead in before halftime and secured a fourth consecutive victory with three more goals in the second half.

Goalkeeper Tommy Wameling made three saves in the fourth consecutive New Hartford shutout and 11th of the season. The current win streak matches the Spartans’ longest this season.
Senior Baltazar Vale de Gato scored two goals for the Spartans while Benjamin Stevens and Noah Partenza each had one goal and one assist. Ashton Giambrone, the team’s leading scorer, contributed an assist.
New Hartford had been a finalist and second-place finisher two years in a row, and entered the 2021 playoffs as a No. 2 seed.
Jack Porter recorded 14 saves for No. 4 South Jefferson (12-7-1), which had won five matches in a row and had shutout Jamesville-DeWitt, the top seed, in the playoff semifinals.
The New Hartford girls had won their sectional title the night before with a win by the same 4-0 score against East Syracuse-Minoa at SUNY-Cortland.
New Hartford plays Malone’s Franklin Academy (7-8-2), the Section X champion, in a regional semifinal match Wednesday in Watertown. Franklin Academy defeated No. 1 seed Massena 3-0 in its sectional final Friday.
