FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss football had struggled in recent history at Arkansas, winning just two games there since 2002 before today. On Saturday, the Rebels struggled with nothing.
Ole Miss beat Arkansas 63-31 on Saturday at Donald W Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Records were shattered left and right.
Receiver Jordan Watkins set the Ole Miss receiving record for yards (254) and touchdowns (5). Quarterback Jaxson Dart became Ole Miss’ all-time total offense leader set the single-game total offense record (562), breaking Archie Manning’s tally of 540 against Alabama in 1969.
It was No. 18 Ole Miss’ (7-2, 2-2 SEC) most complete SEC game of the season. The Razorbacks fall to 5-4 (3-3).
The floodgates have opened. Ole Miss backup quarterback Austin Simmons has relieved Jaxson Dart. Simmons gets in on the scoring, leading a 10-play drive that was capped off with Dae’Quan Wright’s second touchdown catch today.
The touchdown tied Ole Miss’ single-game passing touchdown record.
Jordan Watkins hauled in his fifth touchdown catch of the day, establishing a new Ole Miss record.
It’s all going right for Ole Miss. The Rebels have punted just once and scored seven touchdowns.
Jordan Watkins cannot be stopped. The senior Ole Miss receiver is up to four touchdowns. In total he has six catches for 183 yards. His four touchdowns are easily a career high.
The only concern for Ole Miss right now is regarding starting running back Henry Parrish. He was injured just before halftime and taken back to the locker room. He was carted off with what appeared to be a leg injury.
Have a day, Jordan Watkins. He hauls in his third touchdown catch of the day from Jaxson Dart, this time on a fade pattern. Ole Miss will go to the halftime locker room will all momentum.
Arkansas running back Rashod Dubinion scores the Razorbacks’ first touchdown.
Ole Miss is pulling away. Dart connects with Watkins for another deep pass. Watkins has been beating the Razorbacks’ secondary.
After beginning the game with a couple lengthy drives, Ole Miss struck fast. Jaxson Dart hit receiver Jordan Watkins on a go route down the right sideline. Watkins caught it in stride and finished the one-play drive with a score.
The offense’s first touchdown comes on a nifty play. Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart hits tight end Dae’Quan Wright on a pop pass. Wright was all alone in the Arkansas end zone.
Green, a dual-threat quarterback, got up slowly after he was tackled for a gain of 14. Redshirt freshman quarterback Malachi Singleton entered the game.
The defense had the offense’s back. After Arkansas mustered a goal line stand, Ole Miss’ defense came through. Linebacker TJ Dottery stripped Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green in the end zone. Ole Miss defensive end Jared Ivey jumped on the loose ball for a touchdown.
Ole Miss running back Ulysses Bentley’s first carry came in a big spot, but he could not convert. On a fourth and-goal play from the Arkansas 1, Bentley was stuffed for no gain. It ended a promising 13-play, 76-yard drive for the Rebels.
Arkansas wins the toss. The Razorbacks take the ball first.
Star Ole Miss receiver has been questionable all week. His status remains in question, per the latest injury report that published 90 minutes before kick.
Ole Miss vs. Arkansas will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. Mark Jones and Roddy Jones will call the game from the booth, with Quint Kessenich reporting from the sidelines. Streaming options for the game include FUBO, which offers a free trial to new subscribers.
Ole Miss 27, Arkansas 17: The Razorbacks have a high-powered offense with quarterback Taylen Green. Despite coming off a 58-point performance against Mississippi State, look for Ole Miss’ defense to slow down the Razorbacks significantly. The most Arkansas has scored in three games against a ranked SEC opponent is 17. Ole Miss’ defense is up to par with the conferences’ best.
