Is Leon Marchand the new king of the pool, surpassing even the legendary Caeleb Dressel?
Leon Marchand is absolutely on fire this season! After winning three races in Shanghai and another three in Incheon last week, he kicked off the final stage of the Short Course World Cup in Singapore with a bang. Competing in the 100m medley, the four-time Olympic champion clocked a jaw-dropping 49.92 seconds, becoming only the second man ever to go under 50 seconds, right after the legendary Caeleb Dressel.
Not only did he shatter his own French record of 50.65 seconds from Shanghai, but he also set a new European and World Cup record. Talk about making a splash! With this stellar performance, Marchand not only snagged the gold but also claimed those shiny gold glasses again.
And let’s not forget about Noe Ponti! He really made a splash in the 100m butterfly, winning the #SWC2024 triple crown with an impressive time of 48.60 seconds. This victory is huge because it makes him the first European to take home the same race at every stop of the Short Course World Cup this year. At just 23 years old, Ponti showed incredible talent and determination.

Winning the “triple crown,” which goes to anyone who wins all three stages of the competition in the same discipline, is a remarkable achievement—and he totally earned it!
Meanwhile, Kate Douglass is rewriting the record books in the women’s 200m breaststroke. Just last Thursday, she broke a 15-year-old world record, and then she went and shattered it again in Singapore! Douglass, the Olympic gold medalist in this event, swam an astounding 2:12.72, lowering her own record of 2:14.16 set just a week earlier in Incheon.
Previously, the record belonged to American Rebecca Soni, who clocked a time of 2:14.57 back in 2009. But she’s not the only one making history; other athletes are also stepping up, making waves in this thrilling competition!

This impressive feat came during a day filled with thrilling races, including Kate Douglass smashing the world record in the 200m breaststroke. Talk about excitement!
In the women’s 400m freestyle, Katie Grimes started strong, but Mary-Sophie Harvey, the winner from last week, made a serious push for the lead. Grimes ultimately came out on top, finishing in 3:57.61, with Harvey hot on her heels at 3:58.21. Both swimmers swam under four minutes—what a race! Meanwhile, Duncan Scott delivered a standout performance in the men’s 400-meter freestyle event by leading the race and setting a record time of 3 minutes and 36 seconds and 35 milliseconds which surpassed James Guys’ British record.
