Women’s Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women’s soccer team is set to host DePaul University on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 6:00 p.m. The match will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium Providence, R.I. The match will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. The match will mark the conclusion of Providence’s regular season campaign.

BIG EAST CONFERENCE PLAYOFF SCENARIOS… Providence is in the hunt to qualify for the BIG EAST Conference Postseason Tournament. In order for the Friars to qualify, they must win Thursday’s match versus DePaul. Villanova must also tie or lose their match versus Butler. With a win, the Friars would finish with 13 points in BIG EAST play and finish sixth in the BIG EAST Conference standings.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars enter the week with a 6-9-2 overall record and are 3-5-1 in BIG EAST conference play. Providence posted a 3-4-1 non-conference record to start the season. The Friars have BIG EAST wins over St. John’s, 1-0 and Butler, 1-0 and No. 20 Xavier, 2-1. Last week, Providence went 1-0-1 when they fell to Marquette, 2-1 and tied Villanova, 3-3. The Friars are currently eighth in the BIG EAST standings with 10 points.
Graduate student Kacey Lawrence (Monroe, Conn.) leads the Friars’ offense with 12 points. Lawrence owns a team-best in goals (four) and assists (four).
Sophomore Ella McBride (Peterborough, Canada) has scored three goals for the Friar this season. She has also added one assist for Providence.
Sophomore Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) has scored two goals and two assists for Providence this season.
Sophomore Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) and freshman Kristin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.) have each scored two goals for the Friars this season.
Senior Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.) added one goal and two assists for the Friars this season.
Freshman Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ontario) and junior Alanna Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) each scored one goal for the Friars.
Goalkeepers Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) have shared time in net this season. Bodmer has started all 17 games for the Friars logging 885 minutes in net. This season the graduate student has maintained a .700 save percentage. Thallman has appeared in 14 games logging 630 minutes in net for the Friars. The graduate student has logged a .719 save percentage this season. The duo has combined for three shutouts this season.
MARRYN GRUHN NAMED TO THE BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL… Sophomore Marryn Gruhn was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 21. Gruhn scored the game-winning goal at No. 20 Xavier in the 72nd minute of the match. The sophomore’s goal helped the Friars secure their first win versus a nationally ranked opponent since 2018 when the team defeated No. 15 Georgetown.
ELLIE THALLMAN NAMED BIG EAST GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK… Graduate student Ellie Thallman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 30. Thallman kept two second half clean sheets versus St. John’s, 1-0 and Butler, 1-0. The graduate student recorded two saves including a penalty kick save against Butler.
TWO MEMBERS OF THE FRIARS QUALIFIED FOR THE 2024 FIFA UNDER-20 WORLD CUP… Junior Ella McBride (Peterborough, Canada) and Sophomore Kayla Briggs (Toronto, Canada) qualified for the U-20 FIFA World Cup 2024 and represented Canada’s National Team. McBride recorded one goal and two assists on the tournament. Briggs scored two goals and recorded one assist for Canada.
KAYLA BRIGGS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Sophomore Kayla Briggs received preseason recognition as a member of the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2024 Preseason Coaches’ Poll and preseason honors Tuesday (Aug. 13).
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST DEPAUL… The Friars hold a 8-7-5 all-time record against the Blue Demons. In their last meeting, the match ended in a 1-1 draw in Chicago, Ill. in 2023. Providence last defeated the DePaul, 2-1 in 2022 in Providence, R.I.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS… DePaul enters Thursday’s contest with a 5-7-5 overall record and holds a 3-3-3 record in BIG EAST play. In their last match, DePaul defeated St. John’s at home, 4-0.
Junior forward Freya Jupp leads the Blue Demons offense this season with a team-best in goals (five) and assists (three). Sophomore midfielder Lea Eisenring has added three goals and two assist this season for DePaul.
Graduate student goalkeeper Elena Milam has started in all 17 games for DePaul this season. Milam has logged 1519 minutes in goal this season holding a save percentage of .744. The graduate student has been selected BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on three separate occasions (Oct. 28, Oct. 14, Sept. 9).
