Football fans upset after long lines, short staffing and losing $60 on parking at Magic City Classic – WVTM13 Birmingham

Some Magic City Classic fans are frustrated and they want their money back after they say $60 was wasted.
WVTM 13 talked to football fans who said the parking on Saturday was a mess. From attendants saying they were short-staffed to people stealing parking in spaces they hadn’t paid for. Now, the city announced it’s making changes immediately.
Beverly Ashley-McCurdy tells me she paid $60 to park in Lot F for the Classic, but when she got there, it was full. She said she chose to pay for the convenience of parking instead of taking the $5 shuttle to the game.
Birmingham Parks & Rec released a statement saying in part, “500 prepaid parking spaces for Lot F were sold, but people shared their passes and used them for more than one car.”
The city said sharing passes is not allowed, and moving forward, parking on game days in Lot F will be first come, first served.
But it’s too late for Ashley-McCurdy. She feels she wasted her money—but more importantly—her time.
“We paid for the parking because we’re convenience people,” Ashley-McCurdy said. “I don’t think the shuttles are super convenient with the waiting time coming back through. We paid for the parking and get down with no issue in 15 minutes from the house, but once we got there, we were in line, and they told us they were waiting on the busses or something for the school. We wait about 45 minutes to an hour, and then they came and told us the parking was then full.”
Ashley-McCurdy said she plans on requesting a refund from Parks and Rec for her parking pass.
