Ballon d’Or 2024 is set to be held on Monday, October 28 in France with Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr the favorite to be crowned the world’s best player and become the first winner born this century
The iconic Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on Monday evening at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris and will feature some of the top stars in football under one roof. (Streaming | More Football News)
However, one of the biggest highlight of the evening will be the absence of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – holders of 13 Ballon d’Or wins between them, as neither of the duo have been nominated to the list for the first time in 20 years.
What Is Ballon d’Or Awards?
The Ballon d’Or was created by France Football magazine and has been awarded since 1956. The first-ever winner was Stanley Matthews of Blackpool. The Ballon d’Or is awarded to the footballer who is voted by top journalists from 100 countries in the FIFA rankings.
Each journalist, from one country, picks 10 players in a ranked order with points beside him/her. The player with the most points receives the award.
Difference Between Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best Awards
FIFA had been in association with Ballon d’Or from 2010 right till 2015. However, the respective bodies subsequently ended the partnership with France Football going ahead with Ballon d’Or whereas FIFA reintroducing it’s very own ‘The Best’ awards.
