POST FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — After a surprising, and thrilling run through the state soccer playoffs the last week or so, the Buhl Indians girls soccer team took on Sugar-Salem in the 4A state championship game on Saturday.
Unfortunately for the Indians, that magic ran out in the final game of the year as the Diggers scored a goal in the opening minute that proved to be the winner.
They would add three more late in the second half to secure a state championship and a 4-0 win.
Buhl has nothing to hand their heads about, as they entered as the sixth seed in the tournament and did not even win their district, losing to Sun Valley before eventually knocking them out in the first round and then toppled second seed Fruitland to make the title and eventually a second-place finish at state.
Speaking of Sun Valley, both their girls and boys team made the consolation final on Saturday and the boys team came away with a 2-1 win over Bonner’s Ferry to secure a fifth place finish.
And the girls team took a tough 2-0 loss to fifth-seeded Marsh Valley in the consolation final to close out the season.
The Twin Falls girls had a consolation final as well and they will come back to town with some hardware after a 2-2 draw, but claimed the win in thrilling fashion, 6-5 on penalty kicks.
Congratulations to all our soccer teams on the completion of the season.
