Nigeria takes on the United States on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Saturday at Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
The winner will advance to take on the winner of North Korea and Poland n Oct. 30 in the semifinals.
Nigeria advanced as the winner of Group A while the United States finished second in Group B.

Nigeria won all three of its Group A matches, conceding just a single goal in the opening 4-1 win over New Zealand. The Flamingoes then beat Ecuador 4-0 and the Dominican Republic 1-0 to advance. Nigeria was third in the 2022 edition of this event and won the 2024 African U-17 cup of Nations for Women.
The USA opened group play with a 3-1 loss against Spain, but rebounded with a 2-0 win over Colombia and and 5-0 win against South Korea. Despite the United States being successful in women’s soccer, the U-17 Women’s World Cup hasn’t been kind to the team. While it was runners-up in the inaugural event in 2008, the team has failed to qualify twice since and has not made it past the quarterfinals.
