CHATTANOOGA – The three-time defending Class AAA state champion and top-ranked Bearden Bulldogs ended Page High School’s memorable postseason run on Thursday in the state semifinals.
The Knoxville-based Bulldogs scored a 4-0 win against Page, the No. 6-seeded team that advanced out of the District 10-AAA tournament locally earlier this month. Bearden has allowed only six goals all season and came into the match with a record of 20-1-1. Page was coming off a 4-1 win over Collierville to reach the semifinals.
The Rudderville girls closed the season 16-6-2 overall.
The Bulldogs only score of the first half came on a shot by senior Halle Bibee in the 32nd minute with an assist from senior Carson Stivers.
It stayed 1-0 through the half before senior Maci Ritzman was able to escape the Patriot pressure for a tally in the 52nd. Bearden tacked on goals in the 72nd and 76th as well to provide the final score.
Bibee scored the third goal and sophomore Kennedy Lucas scored on a header with an assist from senior Natalie Heinig for the late tally.
The tandem of Bulldog goalkeepers senior Drew Tolley and junior Ella Eakins combined for the clean sheet against Page. Their defense held the Patriots to just a few looks.
