WPIAL soccer playoffs
Girls
Class 4A
Quarterfinals
6-Canon-McMillan (12-3-1) at 3-Penn-Trafford (13-4)
7 p.m. Thursday, Warrior Stadium, Harrison City
Winner plays: Winner of 7-Upper St. Clair (10-5-2)/2-Seneca Valley (12-2-2) Monday in semifinals
Corner kicks: Canon-McMillan scored seven first-half goals en route to an 11-0 victory over No. 11 Hempfield in the first round. Sarah Coffman, Ella Shields and Rachel Tomley had two goals each. The Big Macs have outscored their opponents 65-16 and have posted three straight shutouts. … Penn-Trafford is well rested after a first-round bye the Warriors earned by winning the Section 1 title. Alexis Brown, a Cal (Pa.) commit, has had a breakthrough season after a knee injury sidelined her last season. Goalkeeper Rease Solomon is a Robert Morris commit. While the Warriors won a preliminary round game in 2022, they have not won in the first round since 2017.
