The high-flying Nigerian girls needed an 89th minute goal scored from 24 yards by Shakirat Moshood to beat a resolute Dominican Republic team on the day.
It was her fourth goal of the tournament.
Overall Group A winners The Flamingos will now battle USA Saturday for a place in the semifinal of the competition.
USA spanked Korea Republic 5-0 to finish second behind Spain in Group B with six points.
Incidentally, both teams also clashed at the same stage of the tournament two years ago in India with the Nigerians edging through on penalties.
Wednesday’s game was played under heavy rain in Santo Domingo and despite dominating the encounter and winning 16 corners the Flamingos were shut out until that late piece of magic by Shakirat Moshood.
