GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Prosper Eagles girls soccer team capped off a dominant season with their first ever state championship in program history.
The Eagles (26-2-2) defeated Austin Westlake (17-5-2) in the 6A girls state championship game, 1-0, on Saturday. All of the high school soccer state championships – boys and girls – were played at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex in Central Texas from Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13.
This season marked the first time the Eagles had ever made it to the UIL State tournament, and they made the most of their first opportunity. Prosper’s only two losses of the season came against Denton Guyer (1-0 in January and 2-1 in February), and the Eagles rolled through the playoffs:
Prosper graduates one-third of its varsity squad this season (10), but returns eight juniors, three sophomores and eight freshman.
