As the 2024 college football season continues into October, we’re tracking all the teams that are still in contention for a perfect season.
Heading into Week 8, only 11 FBS teams remain undefeated. The Big Ten leads the way with three unbeaten teams — the SEC lost three of its four undefeated teams in the Week 6 chaos.
Teams are listed by the ranking in the latest AP Top 25 poll, then in alphabetical order.
Record: 6-0 (2-0 SEC)
Last game: Defeated Oklahoma, 34-3
Last undefeated season: 2005 (13-0, won BCS National Championship Game)
The Longhorns remain the only undefeated team in the SEC following their convincing win over then-No. 18 Oklahoma in Week 7. However, Steve Sarkisian’s squad will face its toughest challenge of the season next week as No. 5 Georgia travels to Austin to try and add a loss to the Longhorns’ resume.

Last game: Defeated Ohio State, 32-31
Last undefeated season: 1916 (7-0-1, won Rose Bowl)
The Ducks are rolling after defeating Ohio State in Eugene Saturday night. Dan Lanning secured Oregon’s first-ever win over a top-2 ranked opponent, and the Ducks are now the team to beat in the Big Ten. The Ducks will look to keep the ball rolling next week against a struggling Purdue team. Looking ahead, Oregon only has two ranked matchups left on its schedule — at home against Illinois and on the road against Michigan. It is no guarantee, but the Ducks have passed their biggest test in search of a perfect season.

Last game: Defeated Southern Cal, 33-30 (OT)
Last undefeated season: 1994 (12-0, won Rose Bowl)
James Franklin’s squad displayed resilience in Week 7, storming back from a 20-6 halftime deficit to take down Southern California 33-30 in overtime. The Nittany Lions receive a bye week to prepare for Wisconsin in Week 9 and Ohio State the week after.

The Canes received a much-needed bye week after two close wins over Virginia Tech in Week 5 and California in Week 6. Cam Ward has put together a stellar season for Mario Cristobal’s squad, and Miami remains one of two ACC teams undefeated heading into Week 8.

Last game: Defeated West Virginia, 28-16
Last undefeated season: N/A
This may not be a team one would expect to see here, but Iowa State has been playing good football. The Cyclones are ranked for the first time since 2021 this season and are coming off a convincing win against West Virginia. Matt Campbell’s team secured its first 6-0 start since 1938 in Week 7, and the Cyclones will look to stay perfect at home against UCF next weekend.

Last game: Defeated Arizona, 41-19
Last undefeated season: 1984 (13-0, won national championship)
After a rough first season in the Big 12, the Cougars have already surpassed their conference win total from 2023. They have two ranked wins under their belt in Kansas State and SMU, and Kalani Sitake’s squad easily took down Arizona in Week 7. The Cougars will look to carry this momentum into their Week 8 matchup with Oklahoma State.

Last undefeated season: 1945 (9-0-1)

While Indiana hasn’t had the stiffest competition thus far, the Hoosiers are still 6-0 for the first time since 1967. First-year head coach Curt Cignetti and senior quarterback Kurtis Rourke have found something in Bloomington. The Hoosiers get a bye week to prepare for their toughest test of the season against Nebraska on Oct. 19. No one knows how long this run will last, but Cignetti has already secured a bowl eligibility for the Hoosiers, who have only been to five since 1993.

Last undefeated season: 1976 (12-0, won national championship)
The Panthers are coming off a disappointing 3-9 season in 2023, but transfer redshirt freshman Eli Holstein has lit a fire in this Pitt team. He’s thrown for over 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns in five games, securing close wins against Cincinnati, West Virginia and now California in Week 7. Pitt squeezed out a two-point win against a gritty Cal team, and the Panthers receive a bye week before taking on Syracuse in two weeks.

The Black Knights are averaging over 38 points per game while allowing less than 10, and believe it or not, Army holds the longest win streak in FBS football at ten. Based on its first six games, Army should be cruising until Nov. 23 against Notre Dame. The Irish have proven beatable, and if the Black Knights can pull it off, we could be discussing Army in the 12-team playoff come late November.

Last game: Defeated Air Force, 34-7
Last undefeated season: 1926 (9-0-1)
This list wraps up with the Midshipmen. Navy has already reached its win mark from 2023, and similar to Army, the Midshipmen are yet to be truly challenged. Also similar to Army, it appears Navy could cruise to its Oct. 26 matchup with Notre Dame. The Midshipmen match up with the Irish a month earlier than the Black Knights, and it will be a great test to see how legit Navy’s squad really is this season.

Last game: Defeated Florida International, 31-24 (OT)
Last undefeated season: N/A
It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Flames, but they sit at 5-0 for the second straight season. They are coming off an overtime win against FIU on Oct. 8, but without a ranked game on their schedule, Liberty could have another undefeated regular season ahead of them.
