JMU women’s soccer stayed undefeated in the Sun Belt after beating Georgia State 1-0 on Wednesday.
JMU women’s soccer beat Georgia State 1-0 on Wednesday to remain unbeaten in the Sun Belt. Georgia State plummets to 1-7-5 (0-2-3 Sun Belt), while the Dukes improve to 6-3-3 (4-0-1).
Here’s what you need to know:
Freshman forward Ginny Lackey put the Dukes ahead 1-0 22:54 into the game after an assist from senior midfielder Lexi Vanderlinden.
Lackey is tied for first in the Sun Belt with eight goals despite only playing in seven games this year.
For the rest of the game, the Dukes’ defense limited the number of shots from the Panthers. Georgia State took two shots during the entire game, but despite only scoring one goal, JMU put up 15 shots.
Georgia State graduate goalie Jaddah Foos finished the game with seven saves.
This was the ninth time in program history the Panthers lost to the Dukes. Up next for JMU is a matchup at Georgia Southern (5-8-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Georgia State will look to bounce back in Atlanta against ODU (8-4-1) on Sunday at 4 p.m.

JMU football responded from a 21-19 loss to ULM on Saturday with a 39-7 win over Coastal Carolina on Thursday night. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Alonza Barnett III recorded four total touchdowns while the Dukes’ defense didn’t let the Chanticleers reach the red zone once.
JMU (5-1 (1-1)) beat Coastal Carolina (4-2 (1-1)) 39-7 in its Thursday night matchup. The Dukes had 421 total yards of offense compared to the Chanticleers’ 181 yards of offense. Next, JMU will face Georgia Southern on Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.

Fifth-year midfielder Carissa Tambroni has played every position for JMU field hockey on top off a variety of off the field accomplishments. However, field hockey wasn’t originally her first choice sport.
JMU head coach Bob Chesney’s “one day at a time” approach helped the Dukes bounce back from it’s 21-19 loss against ULM with a 39-7 win over Coastal Carolina on Thursday. The Dukes improved to 5-1 and Chesney achieved his first-ever Sun Belt win.
JMU volleyball beat Marshall 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-23) on Friday night. Next, JMU will return home to face Coastal Carolina in a two-match series, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
JMU field hockey defeated Kent State 3-0, and is now 4-0 in the MAC. Junior midfielder Alice Roeper had two of the Dukes’ goals.
JMU volleyball moves to 8-8 after beating Marshall in four sets. Next, the Dukes will face Coastal Carolina on Friday at 6 p.m.
