The Wilmington High girls soccer team improved to 4-4-3 on the season with a 2-0 win over Reading on Monday in Reading.
After a scoreless first half, the first goal came in the third minute mark of the second half when Avery King was able to find Cate MacDonald off of a corner kick. MacDon­ald was able to hit one around the goalkeeper.
The second goal came from MacDonald when she found herself alone against the last defender. After eluding the defender, MacDonald engaged the goalkeeper and placed a ball around her and into the net.
Also playing well for the Wildcats was goalie Jil­lian Weinstein, who made incredible saves in net to keep the sheet clean.
Last week, Belmont, the 17th ranked team in Div. 1, traveled to Wilmington for an evening game and the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
Also last week, Wilming­ton lost to Tewksbury by a 1-0 score.
Cross country
The Wilmington High boys and girls cross country teams competed in a home meet against powerful Melrose teams on Tues­day, Oct. 1. 
The boys fell by a score of 15-46 as Melrose was able to take the top six spots against the Wildcats. Despite the loss, many of the runners set personal bests for the WHS course.
Wilmington had seven runners in the top 15, five of them setting personal records.
Gavin Dong was seventh with a PR of 17:09.8, Dean Ciampa was eighth in 17:18.9, David Dynan was ninth with a PR of 17:35.2, Cooper Holleran placed 10 th in a PR of 17:43, Spencer Bagtaz ended up 13th in a PR of 18:21.1, Jake Cronin took 14th in 18:24.9 and Evan Cummings came in 15th, setting a new personal best with a 18:37.3.
The boys record fell to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Freedom Division.
The girls were also against a tough Melrose team and we were also without its top runner, who was sick. The girls fell by a score of 19-41 and every Wilmington girl ran a personal best for the course.
The top six Wildcat finishers included Charlotte Kiley, who was second in 19:57.9, Kaitlyn Shackel­ford, who ended up seventh in 22:04.1 and Bella Zaya was also in the top 10, taking ninth in 22:57.8.
Cayley Israelson was 11th in 23:39.1, Katelyn LaPointe placed 12th in 23:50.0 and Rebecca Hughes came home 15th in 24:16.9.
The girls record fell to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the Freedom Division. 
Field hockey
Molly Lovell scored to give the Wilmington High field hockey team a 1-0 lead, but the Wildcats eventually dropped a 2-1 decision against Tewks­bury on Friday afternoon at TMHS.
The young Wildcats fell to 0-11-1 on the season.
Also last week, Wilming­ton lost to Bedford by a 7-0 score.
After a Tuesday visit to Reading, WHS plays Stone­ham at home on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Boys soccer
The Wilmington High boys soccer team continues to learn on the job.
In recent, the Wildcats suffered 4-0 setbacks to Belmont and Reading. WHS played Reading at home on Monday night.
The ’Cats are 0-12 as the home stretch of the season approaches.
Wilmington faced Stone­ham on Wednesday and hosts Watertown on Mon­day at 2 p.m.
