Darwin Núñez, the scorer who received a provisional permit to be part of the call-up, will seek to help his country continue to climb positions until reaching Argentina. The 25-year-old forward was not present in the last FIFA double date due to the suspension received in the Copa América, but he will be present again to surpass the five goals and two assists that he has contributed in six matches played. In total he has 13 sacred goals and three assists in 29 appearances with Uruguay.
Yoshimar Yotún, one of the authors of the two goals that the team has in these CONMEBOL Qualifiers, will seek to replicate what he has been doing at club level to get his country out of the bottom of the table. The 34-year-old midfielder has three goals and three assists in the last seven matches played with Sporting Crystal and, in addition, is one of the scorers that the “Albirroja” has after scoring in the 1-1 draw against Venezuela in the last FIFA date.
These two teams have faced each other 70 times over the years between World Cup matches, Copa América, CONMEBOL Qualifiers and international friendlies. Of the total, Uruguay has won 38 times, Peru has won 16 times and the remaining 15 times ended in a draw. The last time they met was on March 24, 2022 in the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. The “Celeste” won 1-0 at home.
For its part, the “Celeste” arrives at a strange time since in football they have improved considerably since the arrival of their coach, they played a great role in the Copa America and are third in these CONMEBOL Qualifiers with 15 points from four wins, three draws and one loss. However, on the human side it is not the same case since in recent weeks a bomb exploded due to strong statements by Luis Suárez in which he criticized Marcelo Bielsa and spoke of a bad person. From that moment, both the current squad, as well as former players from Uruguay or those led by Bielsa came out to speak and a big problem was generated around that.
The “Albirroja” arrives at this match in one of the worst moments in history with very poor performances and even more negative results that left it as the last in the table of positions of these CONMEBOL Qualifiers. They left the Copa America group stage after two defeats and a draw after having played a great series of friendlies with three wins and a draw. In this competition they are at the bottom with only three points from three draws and five losses. They scored two goals and received ten in these eight games.
