Inter Milan legend Alessandro Altobelli believes the club will maintain Lautaro Martinez regardless of all financial temptations.
The Argentine inherited the captaincy in the summer following the departure of Samir Handanovic and other senior members of the squad.
This coincided with what has been his most prolific campaign thus far. He currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with 23 goals.
Therefore, Altobelli insists that the Nerazzurri will maintain Martinez even if they were to receive enormous bids.
“At the moment, Lautaro is one of the strongest strikers in Europe,” said the 1982 World Cup winner in his interview with Tuttosport via FcInterNews.
“It seems to me that he wants to stay at Inter, and that the club wants to keep him. It is a happy marriage, which will continue without any problems.
“Lautaro plays for the strongest Italian team. A transfer for 100 million? They can offer what they want. But Lautaro is the symbol of the city of Milan. Thus, no sum of money can prise him away.”
On the other hand, the 68-year-old was less rigid when discussing the future of Marcus Thuram who has been linked with PSG lately.
“Thuram is another great striker. We’ve seen his qualities. Perhaps he’s less impressive now compared to the start of the season, but he’ll shine again soon.
“A move to PSG? We’ll have to see if Inter have some debts to repay. Otherwise, no offer is truly worth selling the player.”
While Alexis Sanchez and Marko Arnautovic are having underwhelming campaigns, Altobelli believes they provide the right balance in the locker room.
“I would be careful before making changes to the attacking department.
“Today, Inter don’t have half a problem. The balance of the dressing room also counts.
Finally, the legendary striker discussed the potential arrival of Genoa breakout star Albert Gudmundsson and the return of Valentin Carboni from his loan spell at Monza.
“Joining Inter is the best choice Gudmundsson could make. But he would have to work hard to play, given that he would have four strong attackers in front of him.
“Carboni is a good player and could return. But at the moment, it remains premature. As a fifth striker, he wouldn’t have much space.”
