LAKE PLACID — After hosting the first-ever UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Lake Placid in late September, the state Olympic Regional Development Authority is scheduled to host both downhill and cross-country World Cup races next year. However, the venue for these events yet to be determined, according to ORDA Communications Director Darcy Rowe Norfolk.
“We need to go through a process to look at locations and take into account what UCI ideally needs and what we can host and execute in the best way possible,” she said.
While a a venue was not officially announced, Norfolk confirmed that it will be at an ORDA operated site.
“We will host those events,” she said, “just where exactly they’ll be, is yet to determined.”
The announcement was made official on Oct. 2 after Warner Bros. Discovery Sports and the Union Cycliste Internationale released its 2025 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series calendar.
The event, which is scheduled for Oct. 3-5, 2025, will showcase some of the world’s top mountain bikers competing in World Cup formats, including cross-country short track (XCC), cross-country Olympic (XCO) and downhill (DHI).
The 2025 edition of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series is part of a three-year agreement between the Olympic Authority and WBD Sports, the global promoter responsible for broadcasting, promoting and organizing the UCI Mountain Bike World Series.
The ORDA-hosted event will once again be the only U.S. stop on the 2025 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series tour and one of just seven locations to host both downhill and cross-country racing during the same weekend. The WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series made its debut in Lake Placid in September with Cross-country races on a newly constructed course at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
The addition of Downhill racing next year will attract a new set of professional mountain biking stars along with their loyal followers. Frenchman Loic Bruni, a five-time world champion, is one of the sport’s all-time greats and Austrian Valentina Hll is a rising star in the women’s ranks.
The WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series will visit 10 countries across 15 rounds in 2025, with 16 weekends of intense racing action between April and October.
