Mustangs clinch 12th consecutive SHAC boys soccer championship – The Highland County Press


For the past 12 seasons, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs have shared or outright won a Southern Hills Athletic Conference boys soccer championship, with LC adding the 12th consecutive championship Monday evening by defeating the host North Adams Green Devils by a 3-0 score.
The Mustangs finish the SHAC season at 7-0-1 and currently hold an overall record of 11-3-2.
On Monday against the Green Devils, the Mustangs led 2-0 at halftime and added one final goal in the second half.
LC’s goals were scored by Braedon West with two and Mason Fisher with one, as West and Fisher each scored a goal in the first half, while West scored his second goal in the second half.
This season, West leads the Mustangs with 13 overall goals, including eight goals in SHAC games.
The Mustangs this season during SHAC games have defeated Whiteoak (5-0), West Union (3-0), Ripley (11-0), Fayetteville (2-0), Peebles (6-0), Fairfield (7-0) and the aforementioned 3-0 win over North Adams. The lone tie was a 2-2 score against Eastern.
In eight SHAC games, this season the Mustangs have outscored their opponents 39-2. In their 12-year SHAC championship span, the Mustangs are 80-1-3 in conference games.
LCHS has one regular-season game remaining on the schedule, as they are scheduled to face Western Brown Thursday, Oct. 10 at home with a 7 p.m. start.
