St. Henry soccer player’s two goals late in first half leads to victory in girls district playoffs – User-generated content

St. Henry junior Jayne Knollman scored back-to-back goals in the first half to spark her team’s 4-2 comeback victory over Villa Madonna in the opening match of the 34th District girls soccer tournament on Monday at Dixie Heights.
Villa Madonna took a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes. After a goal by St. Henry senior Chloe Shea tied the score, Knollman put two balls in the net during the final eight minutes of the first half to give the Crusaders a 3-1 lead at the break.
A goal by Avery Pleiman put St. Henry ahead, 4-1, early in the second half of the victory that puts the Crusaders in the 35th District finals and clinches a 9th Region tournament berth for the 11th time in the last 12 years.
St. Henry (6-8-3) will play the winner of the Dixie Heights-Ludlow match in the district final at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. In the last 12 years, Dixie Heights has won seven district titles and St. Henry has won five.
The other girls soccer teams that posted their winning scores in district tournament matches on Monday were Conner and Cooper in the 33rd, Highlands and Newport Central Catholic in the 36th and Campbell County and Brossart in the 37th.
Conner and Cooper will meet in the 33rd District girls final at 6 p.m. Thursday at Cooper. In their regular season match on Sept. 11, Conner gave up its first goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Cooper. The Cougars (19-2-1) have recorded 17 shutouts in 22 matches this season.
