Wesleyan women’s soccer battles West Liberty to a 1-1 tie – My Buckhannon

Reminder: City of Buckhannon trash collection delayed one day this week
BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat women controlled much of the match Sunday and had a 1-0 lead going into the final 10 minutes, but could not hold West Liberty University and the Hilltoppers got out of Buckhannon with a 1-1 tie.
In the 17th minute, Kameron Bonneau stole the ball near center field to set up a quick counter. Tessa Grisez rushed down the right wing, took Bonneau’s pass into an open area 10 yards out and put away a shot that had the Hilltoppers keeper Cianna Butera moving in the opposite direction.
A second yellow card on Wesleyan’s Emma Pankiewicz in the 70th minute left the Bobcats a player down. Twelve minutes later, West Liberty took advantage to score the equalizer on a Ellie Cunningham goal (assist to Maya Taggart).
The Bobcats host Fairmont State University Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
