5A UIL State boys final: Frisco Wakeland vs. Midlothian – WFAA.com

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Midlothian Panthers (25-2-3) won its first 5A boys soccer state title on Saturday, beating the powerhouse Frisco Wakeland Wolverines.
The Panthers won Saturday’s state championship game, 3-1, at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex in Central Texas, where all of the Texas high school soccer state championships – boys and girls – were played. Frisco Wakeland opened the scoring in the 20th minute, but Midlothian tied it up before halftime.
Two second half goals shut the door on the Wolverines title hopes.
This season marked Midlothian’s first ever trip to the UIL State tournament. It was Frisco Wakeland’s ninth appearance. Frisco Wakeland had won two of the last three state championships headed into Saturday’s match (Frisco Lone Star won the 5A title in 2023).

The win capped off an incredible season where the Panthers only lost two matches all season long: Back-to-back losses to Arlington Heights and V.R. Eaton back in mid-January. Ever since, the Panthers went on a 23-game unbeaten streak en route to their first state championship.
Midlothian graduates eight seniors from the squad and returns 14 players (two freshman, four sophomores and eight juniors).
