We’re on the cusp of the halfway mark of the qualifying campaign in the CONMEBOL zone with six guaranteed places at the 2026 World Cup on the line with the seventh placed side heading to an intercontinental play-off.
Ten teams are in contention and after eight games, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay have impressed and are odds on favourites to secure their berths at the US/Canada and Mexico co-hosted tournament.
Venezuela’s ‘Vinotinto’ currently sit in sixth spot and will be looking to make a statement next week when World Cup champions Argentina come to Monagas with the 52,000 capacity Estadio Monumental opening its doors for the clash.

Leo Messi is expected to be with the Argentina expedition with the veteran striker fighting fit again after recovering from his ankle injury sustained in the 2024 Copa America final.
The past five meetings between the Vinotinto and Albiceleste favour the Argentines with three wins, one draw with Venezuela recording the win in a 2019 friendly game staged in Madrid.
