Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Team got a big road win on Saturday evening, taking down Newberry 2-1 to stay unbeaten. Carola Busquets got her first goal of the season and Evan O’Leary got her eighth assist of the season, which is tied for most in all of Division II.
Evan O’Leary and Brady Livingston set up Busquets’s goal in the 21st minute as LR took a 1-0 lead. The Wolves got the equalizer in the 54th minute as it was the Bears first goal given up since second half of their September 25th game against #4 Columbus State.
The Bears got a break in the 68th minute as an own goal by Newberry became the game winner for the Bears. LR had twelve shots in each half as the Bears out-shot the Wolves 24-7 as the Wolves only shot on goal went in.
Each team had three corner kicks in the contest. Newberry’s Aubrey Cripe made ten saves in goal as eight Bears had shots on goal, led by 3 from O’Leary.
Evan O’Leary tied West Chester’s Faith Matter for the lead in assists in the nation. O’Leary has at least one point in the last six games and 12 total points on the season. Eight assists in a season is already 7th most in LR single season history.
This was the 4th straight win against Newberry.  Lenoir-Rhyne is 6-0-3, 2-0-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.
The Bears will not have a mid-week game this week as LR will return to action next Saturday at Coker. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Coker entered the day in a tie for 8th place in the SAC with a 1-3 record.
