Lutheran’s girls soccer team advanced to the Class 4A state finals last spring before losing 2-0 to Dakota Ridge.
So far this season, the Lions appear to have another team that could be a state contender.
Lutheran improved to 5-1 this year after a 2-0 win over Ponderosa on April 6 at the Lions’ stadium.
It was a cold, windy afternoon but Lutheran’s team sent the chilled Lions fans home with a warm feeling about the remainder of this season.
Sophomore Olivia D’Ambrosia collected her second goal of the season in the first half and put the Lions up 1-0.
Lutheran’s leading scorer, senior Brooklyn Bussey, added an insurance goal for Lutheran in the second half. It was Bussey’s fifth goal of the campaign and gave her 17 points this season. She leads the Class 4A Pikes Peak League in goals, assists and points.
Abigail Megill and Sydney Murphy were credited with assists on the two Lions tallies.
Bethany Espinoza and Bissette Bussey shared the shutout goaltending duties for Head Coach Ashleigh Fitterer’s Lutheran squad.
Lutheran’s lone loss in 2024 was a 2-1 setback to Chaparral, third in the CHSAA’s Class 5A RPI index.
The Lions are sixth in the Class 4A RPI ratings and Lutheran travels to fifth-rated Golden for a non-league game on April 13. Lutheran opens Pikes Peak league play on April 16 against Lewis-Palmer.
