Three goals for Big Foot/Williams Bay freshman Jackie Rambatt, two goals for sophomore Mya Gonzalez, and one goal apiece from sophomore Ryann Grunow and junior Molly Andersen led the way to a dominant 7-0 shutout victory over Janesville Parker Saturday, April 6.
BF/WB moves to 1-0-1 so far on the season.
“This was really the first time we’re getting everybody back together following some injuries, but now that we’re mostly full strength we were able to show off some things today,” Big Foot/Williams Bay head girls soccer coach Rene Perez said. “We had a tough start, but once we started playing everything on the ground and using two touches, we were able to split some defenders and score some good goals.”
Good goals may be an understatement for the Chiefdogs’ and there were a lot of them.
In what seemed like the first nice day in Southeastern Wisconsin in quite a while, the young soccer stars for the BF/WB girls soccer team sure took advantage.
Following a bit of a slow start in the first 20 minutes with neither team getting on the board, things began to pick up for Chiefdogs’, especially for the freshman and sophomore tandem of Rambatt and Gonzelez.
Gonzalez put her first goal on the board in the 21st minute off an assist from Rambatt. Four minutes later in the 25th minute, Rambatt took it upon herself on a breakaway and scored.
But they were just getting started.
After Rambatt assisted Gonzalez for her first goal of the game, it was time for them to trade places. Gonzalez, going up the field in a 2-on-1 opportunity along with the freshman forward, she found Rambatt in the 27th minute for her second goal of the game.
In the 30th minute, Rambatt once again used her speed to sprint by Viking defenders but was slide tackled from behind just outside of the goalie box to give BF/WB a free kick from 10 yards out on the right hash.
With Ramnbatt briefly sidelined, Grunow took the free kick and drilled it in the top corner of the net and out of reach of the Janesville Parker goalkeeper to head into halftime with a comfortable 4-0 lead.
Andersen, a midfielder who was tied for second on the team in goals last year as a sophomore, decided to join the scoring parade in the 55th minute, rifling a shot from nearly 20 yards out and through the fingertips of the goalkeeper for another goal.
Rambatt, who never seemed to run out of energy, instead continued to run by Viking defenders, scored her third goal of the game in the 64th minute to get the hat-trick and go up 6-0.
Just two minutes later in the 68th minute, Gonzalez scored her second goal of the game off another assist from Rambatt and sealed the shutout win over Janesville Parker, a Division 1 team out of the Big Eight Conference.
“All the goals came off assists and we had a couple of nice free kicks,” Perez said. “That’s some stuff we have kind of been trying to work on and build off and we certainly did that. This was really the first time we had everyone healthy and ready to go, and we were able to combine and get some chemistry going. This is a great way to start off the season and now we’ll head into (Rock Valley) Conference play on Thursday (at Monroe).”
