“The first 20 minutes were rough, but I think that was about attitude a little bit,” MCHS coach Trinitie Beckner said. “They wanted to show up for the home crowd, and I think that made them nervous. It’s good for them to see that they have support.”
The Moffat County Bulldogs had another 20 minutes against their opponents before three more goals ended the afternoon at the 10-0 mark.
As a larger team from a larger school and the leader in the 4A Western Slope rankings, Palisade was a trickier test for her girls than Beckner expected but also presented a good opportunity to showcase Moffat County’s abilities.
“They’re a good team, but we put up a fight and put them to work a little bit,” she said. “It was a tough loss, but those have really worked in implementing everything we’ve asked them to do. Two weeks ago, it would have only been the first half of the game.”
MCHS took another 10-0 loss Thursday in Aspen and will host its next home game Thursday against Roaring Fork.
Beckner said that while the 0-4 team has had its struggles in the first few weeks of the season, the steady progress has been encouraging.
“They’re fighters and hungry to win,” she said.
