Though it’s been in the works for a while, La Vega girls soccer coach Eric Ramirez is hanging up his whistle.
Ramirez is retiring at the end of the school year following 28 years of teaching, including 26 of that coaching soccer. He took the Lady Pirates to a 13-7-1 record this year and an 8-2 mark in district. La Vega reached the playoffs for the second straight year and won its bi-district match for the second year in a row as well. The Lady Pirates helped Ramirez reach the 300-win milestone this season, and he’ll retire with an impressive 307-91-17 all-time record.
Ramirez isn’t completely hanging it up. He said he is planning on coaching in the private school realm or hoping to work in another capacity in athletics. “I know I leave the La Vega soccer program in good hands,” he said.
