US Soccer Olympians ready for ‘a cool and special opportunity’ in Paris
WICHITA, Kan. – Four Grand Island city players helped the 18U Nebraska Select capture the 2024 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Tuesday in Wichita, Kan.
Northwest’s Leah Carlson and twin sisters Evie and Anna Keller as well as Grand Island Senior High’s Jolie Jensen were members of the soccer team that went 5-0 during the five-day tournament.
During pool play, Nebraska Select opened with a 2-1 win over OK Energy FC 06G Navy (Okla.) on Friday, then earned a 2-0 win over 1776 06 on Saturday. In their final game of pool play, they defeated 06 Lady Lobos Rush DeSoto (Miss) 7-0 on Sunday.
In their first tournament game, Nebraska Select earned a 6-2 win over 1776 06 on Monday.
Nebraska Select defeated Lakeshore United FC (Wisc.) 4-1 in the championship game on Tuesday. Carlson scored a goal in the championship.
During the tournament, Evie Keller scored a goal and had two assists, while Anna Keller and Carlson each scored a goal and had one assists. Jensen played goalkeeper in the semifinals and championship game and recorded four saves.
The team consists of players from Grand Island, Kearney and Columbus.
