Oklahoma State Goalie Grace Gordon had a great fall season in Big 12 Conference play. Here she is pictured during the conference championship tournament last fall, making one of her patented leaping saves against the OU Sooners. The Lady Sooners won that particular day, but in women’s soccer, at least, the Bedlam Rivalry continues this fall 2024 season.

Undefeated Spring Soccer season lifts spirits for Cowgirls faithful

The Cowgirls finished the spring season with a 3-1 victory over Southern Methodist University back in April.
The win, capping off a 5-0 spring record, was a “brightener” after last fall’s regular season ended with an early exit in the Big 12 conference tournament.
OSU took control early. Laudan Wilson set up Reganne Morris for the Cowgirls’ first goal, and minutes later, Xcaret Pineda hit Lexi Lee in stride and Lee found the back of the net to make the score 2-0.
In the 32nd minute, Nicole Ray connected with Sami Allen, who converted her chance to push the lead to three.
Liz Eddy put the Mustangs on the board in the 60th minute, moving the score to 3-1.
Despite strong SMU attacks, Grace Gordon and Logan Marks held the Mustangs scoreless and combined for multiple saves. Caroline Dill replaced Gordon early in the second half, giving up one goal and recording one save.
OSU outscored its five spring opponents by a 19-4 margin. Seven different Cowgirls recorded goals, led by Pineda’s five.

Last Big 12 joust between OSU and OU went to the Sooners, but stay tuned …
OSU dropped a 1-0 match to Oklahoma in the opening round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship last fall at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
The loss snapped OSU’s nine-game unbeaten streak against its Bedlam rival as the seventh-seeded Cowgirls concluded their season with a 12-8-0 record.
OSU is 31-10-5 all time against OU; the tenth tournament-seeded Sooners garnered their first win over OSU since 2018.
In a scoreless opening half, OSU outshot the Sooners by a 6-5 margin, but OU owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Mollie Breiner kept OU off the scoreboard early, heading a shot by Cailey England out for a team save just 90 seconds into the match.
The Cowgirls had several scoring opportunities in the first half, but OU goalie Olivia Ramey made four saves, including three during a two-minute span, to help send the game to intermission scoreless.
The two teams continued battling for a goal in the second half, but the defenses held strong. A leaping save by Grace Gordon in the 57th minute kept the match scoreless as she tipped a shot by Emma Hawkins over the crossbar.
But the Sooners would finally break through with 14:52 remaining when Esalenna Galekhutle dribbled past a pair of defenders and delivered a shot from the top right of the 18-yard box into the net.
Gordon finished with five saves in the match, while Ramey tallied seven for the Sooners.
OU finished the match with a 12-11 edge in shots, while recording 11 corner kicks to three for the Cowgirls.

Although the Lady Sooners will play in the SouthEast Conference (SEC) his year, the Bedlam rivalry will continue (in soccer and some other sports). On August 22, OSU and OU will be back at-in, in Stillwater.
