Tennessee‘s 2024 Smokey Grey football uniforms are inspired by the Tri-Star emblem on the state flag.
UT unveiled the new Nike design on Saturday. The “Volunteer State” uniform is part of the Smokey Grey series, which will feature a new uniform each season through at least 2025.
The uniform will feature a grey jersey with an orange “Tennessee” across the chest — a first on a home game jersey — below the Power T. The Tri-Star logo will appear on the shoulder and on the pants. The pants also will have the Tennessee state flag white stripe.
The helmet will feature the Power T and a mountain design in shades of grey in tribute to the state’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The helmet has a center orange stripe with a white stripe of the Tennessee state flag beside it. The helmet will have a Smokey Grey face mask.
The three white stars represent the three divisions of Tennessee: West, Middle and East
The Vols will wear the alternate uniform during the upcoming season, but the specific game will be announced at a later date.
New Smokey Grey merchandise will be available to purchase later this month and early August at shop.utsports.com and local retailers.
In the 2023 season, UT’s “Artful Dodger” Smokey Grey uniforms paid homage to trailblazer and former Vols quarterback Condredge Holloway. He was the first Black player to start at quarterback for an SEC program.
