Local youth soccer team preparing to play in national tournament – WSAW

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – MC United is a growing soccer club that’s had their fair share of success. They host individual teams of boys and girls soccer players from 8-18 years old. Playing within the Central Wisconsin Soccer League (CWSL), their 16U team recently qualified for the President’s Cup, a national tournament that’s part of the US Youth Soccer organization.
The team is familiar with the big stage. The same group of girls made the President’s Cup as MC United Girl’s 15U team last year, eventually falling in the tournament’s semi-final. Now playing together for over five years, their potential’s been on display since day one.
“We knew from the beginning with these girls that there was a special core group of girls,” says Melissa Kampmann, MC United 16U Girls Coach. “We could see it when they were little. I think of them almost as my kids, as my little girls. So to see them be as successful as they are, knowing who these girls are how much effort they put in. We knew it was gonna happen.”
Over the years, club has developed into a shared space for soccer players across central Wisconsin. According to their website, their players hail from Wausau, D.C. Everest, Medford, Antigo, Colby, Marathon, Edgar, Merrill, Tomahawk, Rhinelander, and Mosinee school districts. While sharing success, they’ve become a family more than anything.
”Not only are we a team that always puts our best foot forward, we’re a team that always strives to be a community,” says Brynn Kampmann, MC United 16U Girls Player. “We’re always striving to be happy together, we’re building each other up, we’re a team. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose, we all have each other on the team. And I think we all play for each other, too.”
Playing in Wichita, Kansas, the National President’s Cup Tournament begins on Saturday, July 12th. MC United will take on CASA FC Academy 2008 of Colorado at 12 p.m. For full results from the 16U tournament results, click here. For more info on MC United, click here.
