Aliah Raga (Denton, Md./Dynamite Gymnastics) claimed double mini gold for the U.S. as the American trampoline and tumbling roster brought home four medals from the 2024 FIG Coimbra World Cup in Portugal over the weekend.
Raga posted a 29.800 in women’s double mini competition to win the gold medal over Canada’s Sienna Kuznak in second (24.000) and Spain’s Melania Rodriguez in third (21.600). Earning a silver medal was the men’s synchronized trampoline duo of Ruben Padilla (Bluffdale, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) and Aliaksei Shostak (Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express), who scored a 50.960 to place second behind France (52.110) and ahead of third-place Japan (50.800).
The U.S. women’s pair of Maia Amano (Honolulu, Hawaii/Merino Trampoline Gymnastics Academy) and Leah Garafalo (Cream Ridge, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy) won synchro bronze with a 46.480 behind China (48.990) and Japan (47.710). Kaden Brown (Herriman, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) picked up tumbling bronze with a 29.800, behind Mikhail Malkin of Azerbaijan in first with a 31.100 and Vasco Peso of host country Portugal in second with a 30.500.
Also competing in final competition was Simon Smith (Springville, Utah/Utah Valley Trampoline & Tumbling), who advanced to the second men’s double mini final where he placed fourth. In individual trampoline, Olympic replacement athlete Nicole Ahsinger (Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express) and Amano both moved onto semifinals for the women, while Shostak and Elijah Vogel (Longmont, Colo./Xtreme Altitude Gymnastics) did the same for the men. 2024 Olympian Jessica Stevens (Ellicott City, Md./Fairland Gymnastics) was also in action in the first trampoline qualification.
