Who plays today in Copa América 2024? July 6: games, times, TV, schedule – AS USA

COPA AMÉRICA
Tournament newbies and underdogs Canada pulled off a shock win last night to advance to the semi-finals of Copa América 2024, beating Venezuela in a penalty shootout that went to sudden death. With Argentina already in the next round, the semi-final line-up will be completed later this evening, on conclusion of the remaining two quarter finals: Colombia vs Panama and Uruguay vs Brazil.

The action gets underway in Arizona where Colombia and Panama will scrap it out for a place in the last four. The Cafeteros enjoyed a lively start to the tournament, with wins against Paraguay and Costa Rica, then held Brazil to a 1-1 draw to finish the first round unbeaten and champions of Group D. Panama couldn’t have had a much tougher start to the competition, facing Uruguay, one of the big favorites, in their opening game. After losing to the Celestes, Thomas Christiansen’s team got into their stride, beating hosts the United States then Bolivia to book their place in the quarter finals as the runners-up in Group C.
Hopes will be pinned on Panama as the last of two remaining CONCACAF teams still in the competition. They qualified as Nations League finalists an this is just their second appearance at the tournament. Whatever the outcome of tonight’s game, the Canaleros have already improved their Copa América record, having dropped out at the group stage in their debut appearance in 2016.
Rounding off the quarter final stage in Paradise, Nevada will be a mouth-watering contest between Uruguay and Brazil – two of the teams tipped to lift the trophy with a combined 24 titles between them. Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay have arguably looked the most focused, putting in three cut-throat displays during the group stage which they finished as the tournament’s top scorers.
Brazil endured a shaky start, and have looked unpredictable and much less cohesive as a team in general. Apart from a 1-4 victory over Paraguay, the Seleção have appeared less than convincing and were held to draws by both Costa Rica and Colombia. But it’s what happens from now on that counts and you can never rule out Brazil, however erratic they might seem.

Colombia are in peak form, look confident and are clearly enjoying themselves so it’s no wonder that they are the odds-on favorites with the bookies. Panama will need to put in the performance of their lives to beat them and that’s how the bookmakers see it with moneyline odds at -300 for a Colombia win, +875 for Panama to progress and +425 for the game to end level after 90 minutes.
Prediction: Colombia 2-0 Panama
