West Feliciana High School football player dies in crash – WAFB

OSCAR, La. (WAFB) – Troopers with Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that left a 17-year-old dead on Friday morning, July 5.
Officials identified the victim as Rayshon M. Franklin Jr., 17, of St. Francisville.
Superintendent Hollis Milton confirmed Franklin was a student at West Feliciana High School. He was on the school’s football team.
The crash reportedly happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on LA 78, west of LA 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish.
According to LSP, Franklin was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry eastbound on LA 78 when, for reasons still under investigation, the Toyota exited the roadway to the right, entered a ditch, overturned, and then struck a tree.
Franklin, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
Troopers said they do not suspect impairment, but standard toxicology samples will be taken for analysis.
This is an ongoing investigation.
