GRAND FORKS — The UND football program’s latest addition comes with a championship background.
Minot running back Griffin Broderick has committed to the Fighting Hawks, raising UND’s 2025 recruiting class to 15 members.
Broderick is a 6-foot, 225-pound power runner for the Magicians, who won the North Dakota Division AAA state title last November. In the title game, Minot came back from a 21-point, second-half deficit to win Minot’s first state football championship in 43 years.
“It was amazing,” Broderick said. “The guys here are like family and we did it for each other, knowing we were never out of the fight.”
Broderick was Minot’s starting middle linebacker in the game and ran for a touchdown on offense in the first half.

Minot’s offensive backfield was a power-speed combination. Tyson Ruzicka, a senior last season who’s headed to Minot State, led Minot with 985 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Broderick added 396 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
“It was great, being behind Tyson,” Broderick said. “That helped me learn a lot and develop my game more. Tyson is an awesome running back. He was the speed and then they’d bring me in as a bigger, power back.”
UND projects Broderick as a running back in college.
“They were the first ones to reach out to me last year, and we’ve built a really good relationship,” Broderick said. “I can tell they’re putting in a lot of work and care a lot about their athletes. The big thing is they see the potential. I move pretty well for my size. If I trim down to 215 pounds when I get lean muscle on me after working with their strength coach, they see a lot of potential.
“In North Dakota, a lot of people are NDSU fans but my family was always a UND fan.”
Broderick is the second running back (Charles Langama, Maple Grove) and second North Dakotan (Karter Peterson, Thompson) of the 2025 UND football recruiting class.
