Arsenal have completed the signing of Barcelona forward, who won the World Cup with Spain on a long-term contract

Arsenal have made a significant addition to their squad by signing Spain forward Mariona Caldentey on a free transfer from Barcelona.
The 28-year-old forward brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the London club, having spent a decade at Barcelona where she secured 25 trophies, including three Champions League titles. The latest of these came in May when she played a key role in Barcelona’s victory over Lyon.
Caldentey’s arrival at Arsenal is seen as a major coup for the club. The recruitment team at Arsenal identified her as a key target due to her proven track record and the opportunity to acquire her in the prime of her career. She will don the No. 8 shirt for her new team.
A contributing factor to Caldentey’s decision to join Arsenal was the increasing frequency of matches played at the Emirates Stadium by Jonas Eidevall’s side.
“This is the right time for a new challenge for me, and Arsenal is the perfect place,” Caldentey said. “What Arsenal are doing as a club is amazing – on and off the pitch. I love the way we want to play as a team and I think there’s a strong mentality building here.

“It’s been incredible to see what the club has done away from the pitch with supporters following the team everywhere and lots of records being broken. I can’t wait to get started and help the team win trophies and entertain our supporters.”
During her tenure at Barcelona, Caldentey scored 114 goals in 302 appearances. She has also netted 26 times in 72 senior games for Spain, including her appearance in last August’s World Cup final against England in Sydney.
Manager Jonas Eidevall expressed his delight at the signing, saying, “Mariona is a world-class forward and we are delighted to bring her to Arsenal. She’s a winner with proven experience of excelling on the biggest stage, which is exactly where we aim to be at this club.”
The Gunners finished third in the Women’s Super League (WSL) last season and is set to learn their opponents for the first round of Champions League qualifying when the draw takes place on Friday.
