CRETE, Neb. (KLKN) — A team from Crete High School is bringing some hope to the people impacted by the mass shooting in the small Nebraska town.
The boys soccer team is collecting donations that it will deliver to the family this week.
Head coach Derek Spence said this tragedy has hit them closely.
“One of us was affected,” he said. “So we came together as a family again and asked the community to help out.”
The son of the victims played on the team before graduating in May.
“We have about 70 guys in the program, and so when anyone is touched in that way, it’s hard,” Spence said.
People can donate money, pantry goods and gas gift cards.
“The team will get together and will go as a family to some local businesses and spend those monetary donations and get more goods for the family,” Spence said.
The team is also asking the community to write notes of encouragement.
Donations can be dropped off at Spence’s house.
