Rohit Sharma brought in a little dose of football as he emulated Messi while picking up the trophy
Rohit Sharma became only the third Indian captain to lift a World Cup trophy as Team India beat South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup. As emotions ran high with several players shedding a tear or two, there were some fun moments on display as well. Rohit Sharma’s iconic walk to the podium to collect the World Cup trophy was one such act that didn’t miss our eyes, especially of Indian football lovers.
Netizens were quick to point out that Rohit was emulating Argentina great Lionel Messi who also walked in a similar fashion to pick up the FIFA World Cup trophy in 2022. Meanwhile, FIFA, the football governing body, shared a side-by-side snap of the two, confirming what everyone was talking about.

Several people on social media also shared snaps showing who was actually behind the fun walk to the podium. It was none other than Kuldeep Yadav who displayed the walk to Rohit as the players stood in line to collect their medallions.

What transpired at the T20 World Cup final was spectacular as India staged a comeback from a place where it looked apparent that this World Cup was also going to slip away from their hands. With South Africa needing 30 runs off 30 balls at one stage, hopes started to dim for India. However, Hardik Pandya bowled brilliantly to bring India back into the game and once again, brighten their chances to lift the title. Heinrich Klaasen, who looked set to bat South Africa to their first World Cup title, was sent packing by Pandya at a crucial moment in the game.
Earlier, India posted 176/7 riding on Virat Kohli’s 76, who finally came good in the finals. After India lost early wickets in quick succession, Kohli held on to the one side, with Axar Patel (47) and Shivam Dubey (27) partnering with him to take India to a decent score on a good pitch.
India are now the only team ever to lift a World Cup title without losing a single game in the tournament. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the shortest format.
