Who plays today in Copa América 2024? 28 June: games, times, TV, schedule – AS USA

COPA AMÉRICA
The 2024 Copa América group stage will start to look a little clearer following this evening’s games in Group D, bring the second round of matches to a close. The group remains wide open, with Colombia the only team to have recorded a win so far and currently the best placed to advance to the quarter finals.
Despite being one of the favorites to win the tournament, Brazil opened their campaign with a disappointing goalless draw against Costa Rica. That effectively means that the Seleção are obliged to get a result tonight against Paraguay. Failure to do so could be catastrophic as Brazil face Colombia in the final group game on Tuesday – on paper, the toughest test of the three and one which will determine the top two qualifying positions in the group.

Colombia have been looking strong for some time and they can finish as winners of Group D then they will surely be one of the favorites to go on and lift the trophy – a feat they’ve only achieved once, back in 2001. The Tricolor have been on an unbeaten run that has lasted over two years – the last side to beat them was Argentina in February 2022 and since then, Néstor Lorenzo’s men have claimed some impressive scalps including Spain, Germany, Mexico and Brazil.
Lorenzo spoke about what he expects his team to encounter at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona – “a narrow pitch which favors pressing” but said his side will need to find the right path to beat Costa Rica – who he was keen to add, they will not be underestimating.
Gustavo Alfaro’s Costa Rica side surprised many by holding Brazil to a 0-0 draw in the opening game – and came close to snatching a winner. They will need a similar result at least to have any chance of making the next round.

Over at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Brazil will be aiming to make amends for their dismal display in matchday 1. Dorival is expected to field the same side that could just about muster a draw against Costa Rica. The coach put that game down as a blip and believes that Vinicius, Rodrygo and Co will step up their game to boost their chances of advancing to the quarter finals.
Brazil have the upper hand in the historical stats – out of 83 previous meetings between these two countries, the Seleção have won 51 with Paraguay edging just 19.
