New Delhi, June 19 (EFE).- The All India Football Federation (AIFF) posted a job opening on LinkedIn and other social networks on Wednesday to find a new head coach for the men’s national football team, days after its elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“The Head Coach, Men’s Senior/U 23 National Team will report to the AIFF Secretary General and is accountable for the performance of the team in all matches and competitions it participates in during the term of the coach’s contract,” the post said.
A minimum experience of 10 to 15 years as an elite coach, experience as a football player, and having coached a senior national team, preferably with coaching experience in World Cup and continental championship qualifiers, were some of the AIFF’s requirements from its new coach.
In exchange, an unspecified remuneration was offered, and the federation asked candidates to send their financial expectations along with their resumes.
Among other requirements for its future coach, the federation sought a “high level of football and personal excellence within budgetary guidelines.”
AIFF fired Croatia’s Igor Stimac, who had been serving as head coach until now, on Monday, days after the country was eliminated in a World Cup qualifiers match against Qatar.
Stimac, whose contract was until 2026, asked AIFF to compensate him for terminating his contract and threatened to file a lawsuit in case of non-compliance, according to the local news agency PTI.
He said his removal without a “just cause” or a conversation with him was “unprofessional and unethical.”
India, which has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, occupies the 121st position in the FIFA ranking out of 210 countries. EFE
