Cagliari midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has earned a maiden call-up to the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic, 3Sports understands.
Sulemana joined Atalanta’s youth team from Sunyani in 2019 after impressing in a number of trials but eventually moved to Hellas Verona in 2021 following a major injury that forced Atalanta to stop retaining his services.
The defensive midfielder graduated to the senior team the year after, making his debut in October during a 2-1 defeat to Salernitana.
The 21-year-old moved to Cagliari from Verona in July 2023, making 14 Serie A appearances and scoring two goals.
Ghana will take on Mali on June 6 and the Central African Republic on June 10. Otto Addo’s side are fourth with three points earned in two games.
Sulemana’s addition to the squad underscores Otto Addo’s faith in youngsters as seen in the opportunities given to Forson Amankwah and Ibrahim Osman among others.
Meanwhile, the youngster will have to fight his way through to the lineup as the likes of Abdul Salis Samed and Baba Iddrisu have recently occupied the central midfield position.
