Los Angeles Galaxy head coach, Greg Vanney, believes that Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil is very likely to return from injury next month.
He made the statement in a pre-game press conference ahead of the Galaxy’s Major League Soccer (MLS) matchup against Houston Dynamo on Sunday, May 26 at 2:30 AM.
Paintsil subbed out of Galaxy’s 2-2 draw with Minnesota after 52 minutes on May 16 and didn’t feature in Galaxy’s tie against Charlotte FC played on May 18.
Addressing the issue, Vanney pointed to the upcoming matchup against Chicago Fire on June 2 as a possible return date for the Ghanaian speedster.
“We’ll see how he progresses through the course of the week, I would say he’s very questionable for Chicago. We will just see how he goes this week in his progression. He’s on like 45 games for what would be his calendar season which started in August for him in the European season so this is kind of an ideal time for him to be able to be able to recover a little bit for him to be able to catch the second half of the season.”
Paintsil started out the 2023-2024 season with Belgian side KRC Genk before featuring for Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
He transferred to Galaxy after the tournament and has registered four goals and four assists in 13 league games. Ghana take on Mali on June 6 and Central African Republic on June 10 in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
