2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Eagles 'Ve No Reason To Struggle Against Benin, Rwanda –Omokaro – New Telegraph Newspaper

New Telegraph
Former international player Bright Omokaro has expressed his belief that countries like Benin Republic and Rwanda should not pose significant challenges to the Super Eagles in football. He feels that Nigeria, being a bigger country, should not struggle against these teams. Nigeria recently lost 2-1 to Benin Republic in a FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier, putting the team in a precarious position with just three points from four games.
Despite the team’s current performance, Omokaro, popularly known as 10-10 in his playing days, remains hopeful for their success. He also commented on the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, stating that Nigeria should easily overcome Benin Republic and Rwanda. “Who are these countries that we are always breaking sweat when we want to play them,” he said. “Now we don’t even have a coach; we are not sure of who will take over the team and the type of players he will be inviting.
“We are talking about Benin Republic with their coach, Gernot Rohr, what was his pedigree before taking over as the coach of the Super Eagles? Now he is giving us problems, I am sure if we put our acts together, these teams should not be giving us any issues.”
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have been presented with an earlier opportunity to avenge their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying defeat to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan last month, with both teams again paired in the same group in the race for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations that begins in two months’ time.
