Eighteen women are headed to Paris to represent Team USA in soccer at the 2024 Olympics.
Helmed by new coach Emma Hayes, the team is out for redemption. In 2023, the U.S. women’s national soccer team exited the World Cup unexpectedly early in the round of 16. At the delayed 2020 Tokyo Games, Team USA won bronze.
This year’s roster, which was announced in a press release on June 26, has 18 women on the roster as well as four alternatives who will be going to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“Making an Olympic roster is a huge privilege and an honor and there is no denying that it was an extremely competitive process among the players and that there were difficult choices, especially considering how hard everyone has worked over the past 10 months,” Hayes said in the press release.
“Choosing an 18-player roster plus alternates involved many considerations, but I am excited for the group we have selected and I’m looking forward to building on the work from last camp as we head into the Send-Off matches and then onto France,” she continued.
Here’s a look at the official lineup:
Team USA is one of 12 countries that have qualified in women’s soccer at the 2024 Olympics.
The opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics is set for Friday, July 26, but the U.S. will play their first match the day before, facing off against Zambia on July 25.
Next they’ll play Germany July 28, then Australia on July 31. The women’s quarterfinals start Aug. 3.
