10/29/2024 High School Girl’s Soccer Quarterfinal Results – WAGM

AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine (WAGM) – It’s playoff season and that means a very busy day on the soccer fields. 11 County teams were on the pitch looking to advance to the semifinals. Five of the games were hosted by County schools and we all know how big this County is. We put on some miles getting to the four early starting games and one 5pm game Let’s get it started with an all County matchup in St Agatha. The Wisdom Pioneers hosting the Fort Fairfield Tigers. This was a true battle of the fourth and fifth seed. Wisdom scored first in the first half, then the underdog Tigers tie it up at 1 goal each with lots of soccer still to be played. Fast forward to the second half and a mini rainbow had enough arc to put the Tigers back out in front 2-1 in the second. The four seed not going down without a fight tying the game yet again. 13 seconds of game time later the Tigers show their teeth and score the final goal of the game from Adrianna Bridges. Fort Fairfield upsets the Pioneers 3-2.
Moving onto Ashland the Hornets hosting the Bangor Christian Patriots. The Hornets with the ball in the Patriots end for much of the first half. They finally scored when Layla Burby scored the first goal Macy McClean with the assist. That was the only goal of the first half. Bangor Christian tied the game in the second, but Emma Doughty scored the game winner with 15 minutes to play. Ashland picks up the 2-1 win. They will host Fort Fairfield in the semifinals.
Now to Hodgdon. Good crowd and thanks to https://www.whou.live/, here is a record setting goal by Ava Ezell. She set a girl’s High School record for goals in a season. This is her 4th goal of the game and the 62nd of her career. That breaks the single season record set by Ella Hosford of Bucksport back in 2021. Ezell had all four goals for the Hawks today in a 4-0 win over Woodland. The Hawks controlled most of the game, but Woodland did have a couple of decent chances, but they were not able to get it past Maddie Burrows who had the shutout. Hodgdon will now play the winner of George Stevens Academy and Katahdin.
The second seeded Central Aroostook Panthers hosted the Washburn Beavers, with just one minute to go in the first half the Panther’s Haleigh Allen broke the tie. Then, the Panthers would add just one more in this defensive battle. Maggie Mahan scored the second goal to send the Panthers to the semi finals where they will host the winner of Penobscot Valley and Madawaska.
The Lady Warriors vs Mt. View. Fort Kent had two early shots on goal both bounced off the top crossbar. Then, Reese Doucette receives a pass and one touches it into goal. The #1 seed started out scoring this goal 10 minutes into the first half. The end of the first half would be 1-0 but three Warriors scored two goals in the second half. Fort Kent advances with a 7-0 victory.
In other girl’s soccer action, the 11th ranked Presque Isle Wildcats pull off another upset. This time they stop Erskine 3-2 in overtime to advance to the semifinals. Peyton Boinski had the game winner Kacie Marston and Olivia Locke had the other goals. The Cats will play in the semifinals against Hermon who picked up the win over Ellsworth.
George Stevens Academy stopped the Katahdin Cougars 1-0.
